Brilliant episode, amazing cliff-hanger! Fantastic writing by Moffat, dark, complex and genuinely disturbing at times! Don’t Cremate me!

So like moffat to keep us guessing right up to the last minute and turning our expectations on its head. Even when Missy said mistress, I was thinking ‘Mistress rani’, but the masters had a sex change. However I couldn,t imagine Roger Delgado or Anthony Ainley wanting to snog the 3rd,4th or 5th doctor. Puts a different light on the master. I think I might have preferred missi to peel off her face to reveal John simm underneath like the master used to do back in the day. I hope we get answers to what became of the half face man etc when they were pulled up to the nethershere next episode. Can,t we have a new cyberman score instead of the old cybus industries one and the cybermen need an identifiable leader/controller again. Liked ‘The invasion ‘ homage as well.

I saw that one coming from Deep Breath so the reveal didn’t work for me.

I didn’t really like this episode, since about half of it was Pink-based. I hate Danny so much, I was actually relieved when he got run over (I can say that because he’s a fictional character) and annoyed when he came back and spent a good deal of the episode talking to Clara, even when he’s dead!

Nothing really happened in this episode though. It felt like an extended trailer for Death in Heaven, where the only big moment was, for me, obvious. Almost all of the scenes from the next time trailer from ItFotN were from part 2 of this episode. It was OK.

Some very good acting, liked the cybermen and the Danny twist. The master twist however, didn’t like it one bit. Sure it’s nice to see the master but Moffat just wrote missy as “the master” horribly. Why would the master kiss the doctor?! I’m not against a female master but the way this was done wasn’t impressive at all. Would have worked a lot better with Gomez as the rani because of her acting ability, but again, better writing would have been needed. Moffats ego is just too big
6/10, Still looking forward to next week, just hoping “the master” is written better.

Why dont we just go the whole hog and call it “DOCTOR MOFFAT”. Im sick of hearing about steven moffat. How many other shows have the showrunner hamming up the limelight like he does? Do you know the showrunner for corronation street or eastenders? I dont….he should stop trying to put himself in the limelight and let the actors be center stage. Give them stories that show of there place in the story without the need for shock tactics that only highlight HIS role in the show.

I just re-watched deep breath and realised something. If you look closely at the doors on the clockwork droids ship you can see it has the same cyber-eye shape just like the doors in dark water. Not sure if this is just a coincidence or if there’s a connection such as the cybermen or Missy being the reason why the clockwork droids came to earth.

WOW, what an episode, Was rather hoping that Missy would be The Rani, I just found it hard to believe that The Master would refer to The Doctor as his Boyfriend, and if Missy was the person who gave Clara the Tardis telephone number, why didn’t Clara recognise her???
I have my suspicions that there IS more to Missy’s identity than meets the eye, and the same for Seb!!
But if Missy is The Master will we find out the reason for the regeneration & how he/she escaped from Gallifrey (thus is it back???)

Thinking about the end of the last series and the beginning of this, I would like to postulate the following theory: It is said that no-one survives entering the time line, the Great Intelligence didn’t so maybe neither did Clara, making the current Clara an imposter who has been carefully manipulating The Doctor whilst Missy gains sufficient strength and resources to put an end to the planet The Doctor has sworn to protect.

Series Eight has been very inconsistent so far but it is still possible to the most of the “loose ends” up if the concluding episode is sufficiently spectacular…!!!

The likelihood, however, us that we will have to wait until Christmas for the finale.

Wow what a great episode. I loved Capaldi in this one. He’s just brilliant as the Doctor.

I really like the Missy character, she’s funny and evil at the same time. I’m not sure about her being the master yet, they could’ve made her someone from the Doctors and the Masters past and it’s Missy that brings the Master back. I hope she has a tardis that we see inside too as it would be fantastic if it’s the red phone box!

When the Doctor put Clara’s fingers into the psychic link and told her to think about where Danny is now, the tardis took them to him, couldn’t the Doctor do the same with Gallifrey?

The Cybermen looked great in this episode. Loved the skeletons turning into cybermen as the tanks drained.

I can’t wait to see next weeks finale.

No they wont, Steven Moffat practically re-wrote all of the first five series with the pandorica ark, so the cybermen’s invasion in army of ghosts would have been erased from time.

    • DJ

      November 2nd, 2014 - 10:48am

That always confused me though. If the invasion in army of ghosts was erased from time with the whole universe reboot thing how is Rose in the parallel world? She wouldn’t have ended up there if those events never happened.

  • DOCTOR WHO ONE

    November 2nd, 2014 - 7:42am

Well call me stubborn if you like, but I refuse to believe Missy is the Master.

It’s daft, and smacks of desperation for people who want a female Doctor so badly which is never going to happen [unless a female Doctor appears and it turns out she’s not from the Doctors future but a parallel universe where she always female to begin with].

River Song always said “Rule 1, the Doctor lies”, so therefore I don’t have to believe that nonsense about the Corsair mentioned in ‘The Doctors Wife’ about him being ‘a bad girl’ a couple of times, plus it’s never been shown on screen that Time Lord’s can change gender, so I will never believe any of that nonsense.

If Missy is the Master, then Moffat is gonna have to give a damn good explanation to convince me, but until then, I stand by what I say 😛

Woah! Where is Doctor Who going? Am I the only one that felt uncomfortable watching this episode? But as always with this series 8, I just don’t know why… Capaldi was truly excellent! Maybe the best acting of any Doctor to date… But there are holes… It’s like watching/ listening a great opera star doing a soap opera… I still think it’s the character of Clara that’s ruining the mix… That “go to hell” moment was awesome! My prediction is that the last episode will be a let down. “I chose her well” I like the idea of she being a cyborg in this series, like someone here suggested. I’m looking forward to Coara’s end, and to series 9 without her, and perhaps please without Moffat… That would be my version of Doctor Who heaven 🙂

You’re not the only one. I was quite uncomfortable watching it. The episode reminded me of the very worst of Torchwood, pointlessly nasty just to seem like it’s attempting to be mature.

In the past I’ve been one of the first to stand up for Moffat and Clara but even I found this episode a step too far. It’s not that he’s a bad writer it’s just that wasn’t what he should has written.

I too feel that Moffat has overstepped the line. Parts of it did seem quite nasty and in quite poor taste. I couldn’t really imagine this episode on ealier in the day. But it summed up for me what I now feel about Moffat. That he has run out of ideas. So he feels the need to push the boundries further. I suppose the next series will be on even later, so that it can also include bad language and nudity!

Quite enjoyed the episode. Doctor was a little better, Clara was great, pleased at the return of the Master but was hoping that Missy was going to be the Master’s wife (a nemesis to the memory of River Song) and that the appearance of the Master would be in addition to Missy. Hope next week’s finale is good finish before the Xmas Special.

wow. what a brilliant episode! Kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish, and I screamed at Danny and Missy’s moments. Fantastic drama throughout! I didn’t like the kiss thing though, that was weird.
I have a few critisms though:

1 – Don’t cremate me was too much for a kids programme, for someone who has lost a family member and cremated them, this was not nice to here, even though the person will know it is fiction. But for YOUNG children, it was too much.

2 – the Cybermen should have got out earlier and started deleting people, as we were left with them just standing there, it didn’t really feel like a cliffhanger for the cyborgs, more Missy and Danny. Which was good too!

3 – Could’ve been clearer why some are kept as skeletons, and I’m not sure I liked how they were in such a public place, that didn’t make sense to me.

However, it was very good, fantastic writing, would’ve been good with more action but I am hoping for that next week!

ALL MOFFAT NEEDS TO DO NOW IS EXPLAIN EVERYTHING IN DETAIL, MAINLY ABOUT THE MASTER, AND MAKE NEXT WEEK DRAMATIC AND BRILLIANT!

I also predict that Clara may commit suicide…

Lepter, how did Moffat turn the Cybermen into robots?? A skull fell out of the remains of a Cybermen that attacked Amy, and they even showed partially converted people in Nightmare in Silver, whereas under Russel T Davies, they were brains in robot suits, and there was, to my knowledge, no sign that they were once human in The Next Doctor other than the Cyberleader having a visible brain. In fact, under RTD, the Daleks gunned down the Cybermen as easily as humans, while they were pretty much unstoppable in Nightmare in Silver.

  • The TARDIS

    November 1st, 2014 - 10:16pm

I refuse to make any judgement as yet – with two part finales, the second part can either drag down the whole story a little bit (e.g. TSE/JE and TPO/TBB for me. I still love them, but I don’t think the finales are as good as they could be) or they can make the whole thing soooooo much better (e.g. BW/TPOTW and AOG/D again, just a personal opinion).

If forced to make an initial judgement based solely on part one… Well, it was a bit slow and at times I think it strayed into areas Doctor Who shouldn’t, plus the section in the volcano-that-is-not-really-a-volcano-but-an-imaginary-dreamscape seemed pointless. But I will forgive it for these, because I loved it.
