What Did You Think of The Crimson Horror?

What Did You Think of The Crimson Horror?

There’s something very odd about Mrs Gillyflower’s Sweetville mill, with its perfectly clean streets and beautiful people.

There’s something even stranger about the bodies washing up in the river, all bright red and waxy. When the Doctor and Clara go missing, it’s up to Vastra, Jenny and Strax to rescue them before they too fall victim to the Crimson Horror!”

Now that the 6th episode of series 7b has aired in the UK what did you think?, was it the best episode ever or just average.

… I wonder if after 7 series that the magic and excitement has just worn off for some Who Fans? Makes you think if this was Series 1 reviewers would be saying it’s great rather than, average or poor? For me I still await with bated breath the new episode on a sat nite, hoping it’s a classic. Some have and some hasn’t… will I be watching this sat? Yes! May Dr Who continue.

Steven moffat is a great writer for doctor who, just not a good producer for doctor who . Maybe its time for a change at the top.

Steven Moffat has ruined Doctor Who ! With rubbish storie lines , bad writing! Its now just fiction with in fiction ! and just rubbish! And he has succeeded in undoing all the hard work russell t davies did ! The success of any science fiction is that there has to be an element of believability in the story ! I draw the line at spitfires in space and giant turtle with the city of london on its back ! Just bad cheap writing ! Does no credit to the actors and actresses.

I cannot ABIDE this incarnation of the Dr.

It’s not that Smith is not a good actor – my problems is with his portrayal of the Dr.
This Dr is ridiculously flippant and desperately trying to be “wacky” – usually at the most inappropriate times.
So when he “gets serious” it is hugely unconvincing.
His character just does not work.

When his companions are in danger, you get no real sense that he even cares – he spends so much time being idiotic and mugging to the camera.
He is supposed to have an awesome moral depth and intelligence, yet he behaves in such a careless and clumsy manner.
This worked with the “old Dr” (i.e. pre Russell Davies), but since then the epic, messianic aspects of the Dr have been built up, which the stories and this version simply cannot support.

And I do not think that Moffat sets up believable or appealing relationships (which is strange, given his other writing credits) :- Amy and Dr never clicked ; or Amy and Rory ; and now Clara (who I like as a character) is “instantly” the Dr’s best friend. Too soon, no character development.
And for god’s sake, stop falling back on River Song !

BUT mainly it is the tone of the stories that turn me off. They are sentimental, mostly mystical, hardly any believable science these days.
There is a cloying, new-age feeling to them. A smugness.
    (Let’s defeat a living planet with a leaf …)
    YUK !

the stories are rarely a straight-forward sci-fi yarn any more – they more often seem to be trying to make a “point” about the Dr.
But the problem is, his character simply fails to have the creditability needed for this.

Even my 12 year-old son is getting sick of it.
    What a shame.

The Doctor had a cameo in Transformers: http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Doctor
The Doctor also battled with a Marvel Supervillain I think: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Death's_Head

I would like to see Matt Smith to stay for a long time, though my personal favorite out of this series is Asylum of the Daleks.

I agree with 99% with Anonymous. The 1% is that they’re allowed to have their own opinion.

There has been something definitely not quite right with the writing in this season and the last. Everything else – cast, production values – are all absolutely top notch though! Just something not working, maybe missing.

The Transformers and Dr Who did cross over in the old British Marvel comics that came out once a week and were as big a newspaper. Pretty sure at least. The stories also featured the original Deaths Head character that always used to end his sentences with ‘yes’.

At first I thought I would give smith a try with Moffat, but I do have to agree with hmt, The stories are kinda confusing and I think David or chris were far better. Everything seems rushed now with no main story? Lol

Doctor who has never been the same after the russell t davies era ended. A great program that was fantastically reintroduced in a modern world for every type of viewer and has now became childish, unexplained with full of holes in each plot. Sad times.

Just my opinion, miss the Russell t Davis era…..

Your Insane they are terrible characters! The worst in all of doctor who history along side:

Rose Tyler, Amy Pond,Rory Williams & Adric!

If you think these for are great fans, you clearly havnt seen the classic series and and you really havnt seen truly great companions!

I think if they are going to change the writer and doctor for the upcoming seasons of doctor who I really think Mark Gatiss should be the main writer, his stories are brilliant, (This one was only `ok` though) Stevan Moffat and Russel T. Davis can learn a lot from this writer.

Vastra and Jenny are ok (the lesbian thing is a bit wierd but i can go with it) Strax though is one of the worst characters ever in doctor who history.

If you think their great you crearly havnt seen Elizabeth Sladens and Katy Mannings performace. Sarah Jane and Jo are the best comanions so far!

If you really think the snowmen was and this episode was amazing and think they like some of the best episodes ever made, in my opinion (No Affense) but your not you truely dont have good taste when it comes to doctor who and your certainly not a true fan of doctor who.

Yes FanOfDrWho11 I agree the rings of akarten was the worst ep ever. It was fake, short and had no storyline whatsoever. Whoever wrote that ep is a disgrace and it should be perm, anently off air. 🙂

    May 8th, 2013 - 10:41am

EXACTLY Captain Jack. I agree with all you said but I feel that Journey to the Centre of the Tardis was an extremely good ep as it showed off how brave Clara really is and how their bond is getting stronger than ever before. Of Course thats just my opinion and we are all allowed to observe things our own way

  • ZOEFROMGALLIFREY

    May 8th, 2013 - 10:38am

OKAY PEOPLE srsly look at the facts.
The snowmen was the best, hide and Journey to the centre of the tardis werent far off. MATT SMITH DOES NOOOT need a replacement. He is an amazing handsome actor and the best doctor ever. The ep was okay, but Snowmen definately beat it. Clara and the doctor have an slightly more intimate relasionship, and i think Clara challenges the doctor and he doesnt realise it but he is attracted to her. I know steven Moffat wont want this but I want Clara and the doctor to travel together forver in the happiest series ever and i dont want either of them to leave!!!
